To celebrate the 400th anniversary of King James I’s visit to Warwick in 1617, a special event will be held in the Lord Leycester Hospital to mark the occasion. James came to Warwick in September 1617 to visit his Chancellor Sir Fulke Greville, owner of Warwick Castle and member of the Privy Council.
The evening will begin with an illustrated introductory talk by Aaron Manning and Adam Busiakiewicz who will set the scene and illuminate the significance of this important state visit. Passages from Sir Fulke’s famous speech to the King will be recited, including a description of the sumptuous ‘Warwick Cup’, a gift received by the King from the town and now located in the Treasury in the Kremlin Museum, Moscow.
This introduction will be followed by a little music and a selection of popular appetisers typical of the Stuart court.
This special event will bring to life a magnificent moment in the town’s illustrious history.
A donation from each ticket sale will go towards the renovation of the Great Hall of the Lord Leycester Hospital.
