Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester
Sunday 6 October SOLD OUT!
The Court House Ballroom Jury Street
4.30pm
Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, was a member of the ambitious Dudley family. His grandfather, father and brother were executed for treason and Robert himself was imprisoned in the Tower of London, along with three other Dudley brothers, for their involvement in the plot to put Lady Jane Grey on the throne.
Yet Robert redeemed himself in royal service, first under Mary I and then, more especially, under Elizabeth I, who gave him his earldom.
A politician and soldier, patron of the arts and philanthropist, Dudley was a charming but scandalous figure who will forever be remembered for his tempestuous relationship with Elizabeth I – who had a place for him in her heart, if not in her bed.
Join Gareth Williams to meet the notorious earl and hear a fascinating account of his life and loves.
