Battle of the Arctic: The Maritime Epic of World War Two
Saturday 15 November
Castle Hill Baptist Church
4.30pm
From 1941 until 1945, convoys from Great Britain, the United States and Iceland fought extremes of weather and Axis forces to deliver essential supplies to their ally, the Soviet Union.
Battle of the Arctic recounts the Royal Navy’s convoy success in Arctic waters but also tells the story of the forgotten heroes of those Arctic convoys. Officers, armed guards and the ordinary civilian seamen, mostly from Britain and America, but also from the Netherlands, Norway, Poland – and the Soviet Union itself – steamed their merchant ships to and from the Soviet Arctic, knowing that at any moment they might be attacked and sunk.
Join Hugh Sebag-Montefiore to explore this thrilling and important story – one that will leave you thankful to be on dry land.
