England’s Bears: The Blood and Glory of the House of Warwick

Book Launch IconWednesday 7 October
Great Hall, Warwick Castle
7.30pm

For 650 years, the House of Warwick shaped the political and cultural destiny of England: from the ‘Black Dog’ to the ‘Devil Warwick’, the ‘Kingmaker’ to the Dudleys, this is the story of a Midlands dynasty that rose from regional warlords to (briefly) usurping the English Crown.

Some ruled in the name of kings, others incited war and rebellion in the name of God, ruling the Midlands like emperors.

In the 18th century, however, the overwhelmed family dispensed with landed and political power in favour of the arts, transforming from a house of despots to dilettantes.

Historian – and Festival Director – Aaron Manning brings to life the world of a bloody and glorious dynasty, exploring how one family and their quest for power – and survival – shaped British history.
