Holbein: Renaissance Master

Thursday 8 October
Castle Hill Baptist Church
4.30pm

In this illustrated talk, Elizabeth Goldring introduces Holbein: Renaissance Master, her biography of Hans Holbein, the artist who fixed the appearances of Henry VIII, his wives, would-be wives and leading courtiers in the eyes of his contemporaries and of posterity.

The German-born Holbein brought Continental techniques and practices to Henry VIII’s England, where he applied them in new contexts, for new patrons, transforming in the process the Tudors’ relationship with painting and opening their eyes to the political power of portraiture.

Join Elizabeth to learn more of her richly illustrated and critically acclaimed biography of Holbein, published to mark the 500th anniversary of his arrival in England.
